About the freedom of running: Your New York Liberty Run

It's the city that never sleeps, one of the most important metropolises in the world, whether it's business, art, fashion or culture. With 8.8 million inhabitants, it is the most populous city in the USA and at the same time a visitor magnet for around 50 million tourists every year. New York stands for adventure, culture, entertainment and freedom. We celebrate this feeling of freedom from October 22nd - 24th with our New York Liberty Run.

New York, a place of longing

The history of New York goes back only 400 years, yet for many it is an absolute dream to visit the metropolis once in a lifetime. The city on the east coast of the USA is surrounded by water - both the Atlantic Ocean and numerous rivers, such as the Hudson River, divide New York into several islands. Each district has its own charm and history, be it Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens or Staten Island. Numerous films and series are set here and we are now turning the city into your running route!

A city with many faces (and running routes)

There's a lot to discover on your run! Do you want to run through the centre of Manhattan, where skyscrapers like the Empire State Building with its breathtaking view await you? Pass by the colourful hustle and bustle of Times Square, between flashy billboards, restaurants, the MTV studios and numerous well-known shops? Maybe you'll catch a glimpse of a famous star on Broadway and be enchanted by the world of theatre? Looking for some peace and quiet after all the hustle and bustle? Then take a long run through the almost 350-hectare Central Park. The green heart in the middle of the city. Here you'll meet other joggers, cyclists, walkers and street artists. Central Park is like a world of its own in the middle of the Big Apple and the city's green lung. Here you can take a deep breath!

The freedom to run

New York is home to a landmark that stands for freedom and independence like no other - the Statue of Liberty. Since hardly any other sport gives you the feeling of freedom like running, we want to combine both with our New York Liberty Run. So what would a run be without taking a close look at the Statue of Liberty? Whether from the shore of the big city, from the open deck of the ferry, or during a close exploration of "Lady Liberty".

"Lady Liberty" - symbol of freedom and independence

With a total height of over 90 metres, she towers into the sky on Liberty Island, looks over New York harbour and is considered the landmark of the USA. Lady Liberty came to the USA in 1886 as a gift from the French. The reason for the generous gift was the 100th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence. She is a representation of the Roman goddess of liberty, Libertas, who holds a scroll with the date of the Declaration of Independence in her left hand and a torch in her right. Her head is adorned with a crown with 7 rays representing the continents of the earth and the 7 oceans. At her feet are broken chains symbolising the end of slavery. Between the 1890s and the 1950s, the Statue of Liberty was the first thing some 12 million immigrants saw of the city and the USA before they received confirmation of entry.

A masterpiece of copper and steel

The interior of the iconic statue consists of a steel frame designed by the engineer Gustave Eiffel. Eiffel also designed the Eiffel Tower. This framework was covered with red copper plates designed by the French sculptor Bartholdi. But where does the green colour come from? The original colour turned green within a short period of time due to weather conditions, i.e. rain, sun and salt water. If you want to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site from the inside, you have to climb 167 steps to her feet. It's another 171 stairs to her head. Wouldn't that be a challenge for your Liberty Run? ;)

The great runner's dream: New York Marathon

Along with the marathons in Boston, Chicago, London and Berlin, the New York Marathon is one of the largest and most popular running events in the world. What began with about 100 participants has become a race for which a starting place has become the dream of every ambitious runner. From Staten Island, the run goes through Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx over to Manhattan, where the finish line awaits the participants in Central Park. Spectators, fans and bands are everywhere along the course to cheer the runners on and carry them over the finish line.
